Software Availability

This web site is under construction and definitely not ready for use.  If you have found your way here  looking for information about software availability at UA, please go to //helpdesk.ua.edu/software.

The University of Alabama has a number of volume and site license agreements in place that provide significant discounts on widely used software.   Much of this software is available at little or no cost to faculty and staff, often through funding made available by their home college, department, or division.  This site provides information about the software that is available, to whom and under what conditions it is available, and how faculty and staff can acquire the software.  Follow the links on the Software Categories menu to access the information for specific software.

Special Licensing Programs

There are several special-purpose licensing programs in place at The University of Alabama:

  • The Microsoft Campus Agreement provides licenses for specific Microsoft products, including the Microsoft Office suite, for participating departments.  Check with your department to determine whether they participate.

  • The Adobe Term Site License program provides licenses for Adobe Acrobat Pro for participating departments.  Check with your department to determine whether they participate.

  • The Adobe Cumulative License Program provides steep discounts on Adobe software products.  Further information can be found on the Purchasing web site under Standing Contracts.

Other sources

Some special-purpose software is available directly through colleges or departments.  If you are interested in an item not shown here, check with your college or department.

While there are other free download sites on the Internet, please exercise caution when using them. Downloading software from unknown sources puts you at a major risk of contracting a computer virus. You should also be aware of copyright restrictions on shareware and demo programs, and should understand that some sites may be posting software illegally.
